On 10 September 2026 OpenAI published Introducing ChatGPT for Financial Services. The product is described as a tailored ChatGPT Work experience that pairs GPT-6 Astra with built-in financial datasets for research, modeling, and client materials.
Design partners named on the page: Morgan Stanley and Evercore. Starting focus stated by OpenAI: investment banking and equity research.
Who is bound
Nobody is forced to buy or integrate this SKU. The buyers who must decide are:
- Bank / broker research and IB technology leads evaluating ChatGPT Work seats for analysts who already pay for market-data terminals.
- InfoSec / data-governance teams reviewing OpenAI-hosted copies of premium datasets and citation paths.
- Existing data vendors (Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG, Crunchbase, and the shared-sign-in list) whose contracts and entitlement flows sit next to this product.
Retail ChatGPT users and non-eligible firms are outside the stated availability line.
What's new
- Hosted premium datasets inside ChatGPT Work. OpenAI says it indexes and hosts Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase data on its own infrastructure so teams can start without a separate MCP connector negotiation for those sources.
- Granular citations. The post says bankers can trace figures and claims to specific tables and passages, with supporting information highlighted for review. A source-picker UI still is part of the announcement art.
- Frontier model included. GPT-6 Astra ships natively; OpenAI says newer models will land in the product as released.
- Entitlement path for other subscriptions. OpenAI says it is working with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva, and Moody's on shared sign-in so providers can recognize ChatGPT identity and unlock existing firm subscriptions. That work is described as underway.
- Central admin. Firms can centrally manage access and data connections under ChatGPT enterprise security and governance controls (as stated; no new SOC report is attached to the post).
Workflow examples listed on the page: value analysis, LBO modelling, buyer screening, earnings analysis, pitchbook preparation.
What it does not settle
- No published price list, seat minimum, or region list beyond "eligible financial institutions."
- No published eval scores for financial Q&A, citation precision, or hallucination rates on this SKU.
- No claim that shared sign-in with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Factiva, or Moody's is live today.
- No statement that OpenAI replaces Bloomberg, FactSet, or CapIQ terminals.
- Design-partner quotes are testimonials. They do not substitute for independent benchmarks.
What to do now
- IB / equity-research platform owners: Ask your OpenAI account team for the eligibility criteria, data-processing addendum, and which of Daloopa / PitchBook / LSEG News / Crunchbase are actually enabled for your tenant.
- Market-data counsel: Map whether OpenAI hosting duplicates your existing redistribution rights; flag residual risk on PitchBook and similar private-market feeds.
- Risk / model validation: Demand a citation-audit sample on live books before any client-facing memo uses Astra outputs.
- Ignore for Monday if you are not an eligible financial institution. The contact form is the gate; there is no public self-serve SKU in the post.
