The Wall Street Journal says Amazon is negotiating to buy Decart. Reuters carried the same account on 11 October 2026. Neither company confirmed it. That is not a close.
WSJ puts Amazon in Decart talks near $7 billion
Kate Clark and Lauren Thomas reported on Sunday, 11 October 2026, that Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart for around $7 billion, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters the same day (Angela Christy in Bengaluru; edited by Bill Berkrot and Rashmi Aich) repeated the Journal's account: a deal could happen soon if talks hold and no other bidder appears. Amazon declined to comment outside business hours. Decart did not respond.
Calcalist / CTech later put the proposed figure near $5.5 billion and floated a late-October signing window. PitchBook data cited by the Journal put Decart's May valuation near $4 billion after a $300 million round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia as a new investor. Three price points in two weeks. None of them is a signed term sheet.
AWS buyers, Anthropic, and Decart's backers sit closest
Trainium customers and AWS teams selling against Nvidia CUDA care if Amazon buys a stack that already demos on Trainium3. Anthropic walked from a ~$6 billion Decart pursuit in September after diligence, Bloomberg reported, and still sits inside Amazon's AI partnership and Trainium fleet. Decart investors named in Journal / PitchBook coverage include Sequoia, Benchmark, and Radical Ventures. Nvidia invested in the May round and earlier held acquisition talks, per CTech.
Procurement and IR desks are not bound to a deal that has not been announced. Do not update models on rumor alone.
Amazon is the reported buyer after Anthropic walked
The new fact is the buyer name. Anthropic explored Decart in August near $6 billion and quit in September. Amazon, already Decart's Trainium partner, is now the outlet-named acquirer.
Decart sells the Decart Optimization Stack (DOS) for inference and training across NVIDIA GPUs, AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, AMD, and other accelerators, plus Lucy for live video edits and Oasis for robotics and autonomous-driving simulation, per Decart's sites and the Reuters product bullets. Amazon's Trainium3 UltraServer post says Decart runs real-time generative video 4x faster at half the cost of GPUs. GeekWire described live Decart demos on Trainium3 at re:Invent. That is the AWS case for wanting the company: software that makes Trainium easier to sell, not another content brand.
Talks are not terms
No 8-K. No press release. No on-record yes from Amazon or Decart. Price remains unsettled between the Journal's ~$7 billion, CTech's ~$5.5 billion, and the May ~$4 billion round. Why Anthropic left is contested: Bloomberg frames a buyer walk after diligence; Globes, citing sources close to Decart, stresses resistance to moving Tel Aviv talent to San Francisco. Whether DOS would keep supporting Nvidia and Google chips under Amazon is not disclosed. Audited Decart revenue is not disclosed.
Wait for a filing before you price it
Ignore the close until Amazon or Decart publish terms. If you buy Trainium capacity, note the software thesis and keep Nvidia fallbacks until ownership of DOS is real. Do not reprice Anthropic, Nvidia, or Decart private marks on this wire alone.
