GPT-6 and a new interface paradigm arrive in ChatGPT
On 7 October 2026, OpenAI announced that GPT-6 and a new capability called Intelligent UI are rolling out globally to the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week. The rollout started on the same day for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers, with Free and Go tiers following on 8 October.
Intelligent UI is a new response format: instead of text alone, ChatGPT can now answer with fully interactive user interfaces--charts, forms, tappable buttons, calculators and visual tools--rendered directly inside the conversation. The model decides which UI element fits the question; the user does not select a mode. OpenAI describes this as the model "choosing how text, visuals and interactive elements fit together on your question."
GPT-6 in ChatGPT uses two model variants. GPT-6 Sol powers Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers. GPT-6 Luna powers Free and Go tiers. Both are tuned for everyday conversation. The models powering ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings.
The announcement shows examples: a 7-speed bicycle breakdown with interactive components, a mortgage calculator with live sliders, a tax-form helper, and a data-visualization tool that renders charts from a natural-language request. In each case the model produces the UI as part of its answer.
The model chooses the interface
Intelligent UI shifts the interaction pattern. Until now, a chat response was text, code blocks, or static images. Now the response can be an interactive component that the user manipulates--adjusting a slider to see a mortgage payment change, toggling a form field, or exploring a data visualization. The model selects and renders the component; there is no separate "canvas" or "artifact" mode the user invokes.
OpenAI says the feature is built on GPT-6's ability to compose responses using text, visuals and interactive elements together. The model was trained to choose the right representation for the task. This is a product-level change to how ChatGPT works, not a new model release. The underlying GPT-6 models (Sol and Luna) were already available to paid customers since September.
Scope and limits
The rollout applies to the Chat tab in ChatGPT. Work and Codex are explicitly excluded from this update. Enterprise customers may not see the feature immediately if their admin has not enabled it. The announcement does not detail rate limits, token costs for Intelligent UI responses, or whether the interactive components persist across sessions.
OpenAI's system card for GPT-6 Luna (the free-tier model) was published separately and covers safety evaluations; the Intelligent UI feature itself is not separately evaluated in that document.
Product teams should test the new interaction pattern
Founders and product teams building on ChatGPT or OpenAI APIs should test how Intelligent UI changes user expectations for conversational interfaces. If users come to expect interactive tools inside chat, static text responses may feel incomplete. API customers do not yet have access to Intelligent UI rendering; the announcement covers only the ChatGPT consumer product.
