DeepMind ships Genie 4, a real-time world model with native audio and language steering

Trusted-tester research preview with Gemini Omni grounding and Gemini 3.8 Flash in the loop; photorealism and physics claims stay on DeepMind's demo reel until an open eval suite appears.

DeepMind put a world model back on the product clock on 27 October 2026. Genie 4 is framed as real-time, steerable by keyboard and language, and audible out of the box. The control stack that matters sits under the reel: Gemini models inside the loop, and a preview path that points at Ultra and the Gemini API.

DeepMind posts Genie 4 as a real-time interactive world model

Google DeepMind's 27 October 2026 blog, mirrored the same day on Google's innovation blog, introduces Genie 4 as a new generation of world simulation. The posts describe a model that runs interactive environments in real time, accepts keyboard navigation and natural-language prompts, and emits native multimodal audio covering both ambient sound and interactive dialogue.

Appearance and behaviour are anchored by Gemini Omni. Other Gemini models are described as keeping scene coherence. Gemini 3.8 Flash is named as a guiding agent in the loop: the world model generates; a Gemini agent steers and corrects. That architecture is the operational claim behind the demos.

DeepMind positions the drop as a research preview for trusted testers. The same posts sketch a later route into Google AI Ultra under Project Genie, and into partner surfaces on the Gemini API and AI Studio. Those are distribution promises dated to the announcement, still gated by tester access today.

DeepMind, Google AI Ultra, and Gemini API partners sit on the path

DeepMind shipped the research system and the public write-ups. Google's consumer and developer organisations inherit the productisation story: Project Genie and Google AI Ultra for end-user access, Gemini API and AI Studio for partners who want to embed interactive worlds.

Teams building games, training simulators, robotics sandboxes, or agent eval harnesses are the near audience. They inherit a closed preview without published weights. Procurement and safety reviewers inherit the same gate: capability claims travel on DeepMind's footage until independent harnesses exist.

Native audio joins Gemini Omni grounding and a Flash guide loop

Prior Genie generations sold interactive video worlds. Genie 4's public delta is the combination DeepMind emphasises on 27 October: real-time interaction, native ambient and dialogue audio, language-plus-keyboard steering, Gemini Omni for appearance and behaviour, wider Gemini models for coherence, and Gemini 3.8 Flash as an in-loop guiding agent.

That moves the story from "a model that rolls out frames" toward "a multimodal control stack with an agent supervisor." For product teams, the Flash guide is the piece to pressure-test. If the guiding agent is doing the hard work of keeping physics and dialogue coherent, Genie 4's headline model and the Gemini stack need to be evaluated as a system.

The product path is also new wording in this cycle. Trusted testers first, then Ultra / Project Genie, then API and AI Studio partners. DeepMind is signalling a consumer and partner surface with a longer product path behind the research film.

Photorealism and physics stay on DeepMind's demo reel

Photorealism, physical plausibility, and human-action fidelity are presented as DeepMind demonstration claims. The 27 October posts do not publish an open evaluation suite, public leaderboard, or third-party harness against which buyers can reproduce those numbers.

Access is research preview for trusted testers. Independent latency, failure-rate, and long-horizon coherence measurements remain unsettled outside DeepMind's selected clips. Pricing for Ultra or API meter lines is not disclosed in the announcement posts. Training-data provenance beyond the marketing narrative is not disclosed.

Treat the keyboard-and-prompt interface as the documented control surface. Treat every physics flourish in the reel as vendor-reported until a public protocol exists.

Queue the preview, then budget an internal world-model harness

Platform and research leads who need interactive worlds should request trusted-tester access and map whether Ultra or Gemini API is the intended production path for their use case. Evaluation teams should stand up an internal harness for latency, audio-dialogue consistency, and long-horizon coherence while the open suite is still missing.

Product counsel should diary the preview-to-Ultra wording and require a written capability boundary before any customer-facing claim copies DeepMind's photorealism language. Robotics and agent teams should compare Genie 4's closed stack against whatever offline world models they already run, on tasks they can score without DeepMind's footage.

DeepMind and Google published matching 27 October 2026 posts. Capability adjectives above track those primaries; open-benchmark gaps are Frontier's reading of what the posts omit.

Independent frame-level physics scores for Genie 4 remain unsettled.
