Emerald AI, Google, and NVIDIA announced the AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA). The stated goal is data centers that can dynamically manage electricity use when the grid is constrained, and interconnection rules that treat that flexibility as a system resource.
NVIDIA's post says traditional interconnection assumes flat, static demand. A flexible facility can shift workloads, discharge storage, use paired generation, or respond to contingencies. The alliance wants that behavior recognized so operators can connect more AI load on shorter timelines while protecting reliability and affordability.
What AEMA claims to standardize
Per NVIDIA, AEMA is technology-neutral and performance-based. Measured services named: response speed, duration, predictability, and emergency behavior.
Alliance principles listed on the NVIDIA page:
- Define ride-through, curtailment, and contingency-response obligations before a facility connects.
- Standardize technical requirements, performance metrics, and operational data sharing.

NVIDIA also states that NVIDIA and Emerald AI are already working with energy and infrastructure leaders on AI factories that can respond to grid conditions in real time, and that AEMA will broaden that work across the U.S. The NVIDIA post links readers to AEMA at aema.ai.
